’02 Ford Explorer has several problems, and there were couple of 2002 Ford Explorer recalls that aroused out of issues with tires, lift-gate glass, and speed control deactivation switch.

’02 Explorer models were loaded with the defective speed control deactivation switch produced by Texas Instruments; these SCDS leaked internally and overheated, resulted in fire accident.

Remedy: Ford asked the dealers to install a fused wiring harness for SCDS, and even inspected ABS control connector

Issues with Tires

Some tires fixed on the right side of 2002 Explorer had horizontal slashes on them, posing a threat of tire failure in the longer run.

Problems with Lift-Gate and Lights

2002-03 Explorer models had faulty Liftgate glass strut that could disengage/hinge/fracture, posing a threat of glass breaking in certain situations.

Moreover, 2002-2003 Ford Explorer models had improper courtesy lights inside the running boards, which were prone to overheating upon exposure to excessive road salt/moisture.

Remedy: Ford notified dealers to inspect and replace all the faulty parts for free!
